Somehow I managed to install Adobe’s PDF Viewer as a web plugin. Now Safari no longer uses it’s built-in PDF viewer which is significantly faster that Adobe’s plugin. If you run into a similar situation here is how to remove the plugin: Delete the file AdobePDFViewer.plugin from the folder /Library/Internet Plug-ins

Thanks for the tip ! I recently uninstalled Reader completely, I got tired of it wanting to update itself every time it ran, and its sooo slow. Well, the uninstall left the plugin behind.

    Now I’m 100% Reader-free.

Thanks for posting this, it was very useful since I couldn’t find anything in Safari’s help for removing plug-ins.

Thanks - while I like the suite produced by adobe - I resent automatic plugins that seem to be installed without a choice that effect the normal operation of a program (e.g. Safari).

It is true that preview is so much quicker than Acrobat regardless of its features.

    Many thanks

    Regards

Thank you. I am in the process of uninstalling adobe reader 8 and it has turned difficult. At least I have more control now, but there is still dust left behind.

Nice one! Opening PDFs crashed in all users except the administrator account. This is probably a permissions thing but going back to preview sorted it out nicely. Thanks.

Thanks for the heads up. There were several sites that I couldn’t access a .pdf file (i.e., Chase.com) Upon removing the Adobe plug-in everything works.

    Thank you very much!

My Adobe Viewer Plugin was broken and every time I opened a pdf a dialogue appeared that AdobeViewer couldn’t find a viable Adobe Reader …

Now I removed it completely and I’m enjoying the speed of Safari again!

    Cheers!
